A New Equation to Estimate Energy Expenditure Using Heart Rate in Children

نویسندگان

چکیده

The first aim of this study was to develop equations predict physical activity energy expenditure (PAEE) for children utilizing heart rate monitors (HRM) and vector magnitudes (VM) from accelerometers. second cross-validate the developed PAEE prediction compare pre-existing accelerometer-based equation (i.e., Trost). Seventy-five students in elementary school (from 10 13 years old) were classified into an calibration group (N = 50, 33 boys 17 girls) a cross-validation 25, 20 5 girls). Participants simultaneously wore portable indirect calorimeter (Cosmed’s K4b2), monitor on chest, accelerometer right side waist. Then, participants performed series various intensity activities. (EE) measured by K4b2 set as dependent variable. Multiple regression analysis derive equations. heart-rate-based EE had explanatory power adj. R2 0.814 0.802. VM-based indicated high mean absolute percent errors (MAPE) at light, moderate, vigorous intensity. included range equivalence limit all activities, but VM showed some overestimation beyond range. agreement between criterion estimated lower than approach with demonstrated higher accuracy results current indicate that can be potential method estimating children’s PAEE.

A new equation to estimate basal energy expenditure of patients with diabetes.

BACKGROUND & AIMS Predictive equations for basal energy expenditure (BEE) derived from Caucasians tend to overestimate BEE in non-Caucasians. The aim of this study was to develop a more suitable method to estimate BEE in Japanese patients with diabetes using indices readily measured in clinical practice. METHODS BEE was measured by indirect calorimetry under a strict basal condition in 68 Jap...

Energy expenditure estimate by heart-rate monitor and a portable electromagnetic coils system.

The aim of this article was to compare 2 portable devices (a heart-rate monitor and an electromagnetic-coil system) that evaluate 2 different physiological parameters--heart rate (HR) and ventilation (VE)--with the objective of estimating energy expenditure (EE). The authors set out to prove that VE is a more pertinent setting than HR to estimate EE during light to moderate activities (sitting ...

Branched equation modeling of simultaneous accelerometry and heart rate monitoring improves estimate of directly measured physical activity energy expenditure.

The combination of heart rate (HR) monitoring and movement registration may improve measurement precision of physical activity energy expenditure (PAEE). Previous attempts have used either regression methods, which do not take full advantage of synchronized data, or have not used movement data quantitatively. The objective of the study was to assess the precision of branched model estimates of ...

A new equation to estimate the glomerular filtration rate in children, adolescents and young adults.

BACKGROUND A new estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) equation, designed for isotope dilution mass spectrometry-standardized serum creatinine (Scr), is presented for use in children, adolescent boys and girls and young adults. METHODS The new equation, eGFR = 107.3/(Scr/Q), is based on the concept of normalized Scr: Q is the normalization value and is considered as the Scr concentratio...

Equation to estimate resting energy expenditure in adolescents with sickle cell anemia1–3

Background: Basal energy requirements are higher in adolescents with sickle cell anemia (SCA) than in healthy control subjects. However, no equation is available to accurately predict their energy needs. Objective: Our objective was to develop a clinically useful equation to estimate resting energy expenditure (REE) in adolescents with SCA. Design: REE and other components of total energy expen...
